PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
Work Experience Partnership programs involve increasing an individual’s prospects of obtaining permanent employment through the provision of essentials to begin employment and work experience. All of these activities are available to all Aboriginal Human Resource Development Agreement clients, including youth and people living with disabilities.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE:
The Work Experience Partnership is intended to provide client focused partnership with an employer that does not mean to permanently hire the client. The employer receives funds to cover a portion of wage costs in return for providing work experience to an unemployed client.
Provide unemployed clients with opportunities to gain work experience in a supportive environment, giving them valuable experience for future employability.
Provide life and work skills development.
Support the development and enhancement of essential employability skills, such as communication, problem solving, and working with others.
Expose clients to a variety of career options so that clients can develop a broader sense of possible career paths.
Establish partnerships with public and private organizations to increase employment opportunities for clients.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Who Can Apply?
Non-profit organizations in the public sector and revenue generating businesses.
Who Can Participate?
Individuals eligible to participate in the program are unemployed First Nation or Inuit clients that have limited to no work experience and lack basic employment skills.
ADDITIONAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
In order to be eligible, the work experience partnership project must:
- Be in accordance with the program objectives
- Demonstrate that the program activities will provide assistance only to eligible participants.
- Provide an estimate of costs to be incurred, including any other partners contributions whether in kind or financial.
- Outline the results achieved.
- Demonstrate that the applicant will contribute a minimum of 30% of the cost of the client’s wages (and share of benefits), at rates comparable to those of the general labour market for that occupation.
- Not exceed – 26 weeks (whether full time or part time employment).
- Provide a real benefit to the community and/or provide a workplace experience that is likely to increase the participant’s future success.
- Provide a genuine learning experience for the participant.
- Be gender-balanced as possible.
- Administer an agreed upon employment preparation strategy with the client for the term of the employment.
- Demonstrate participants will be paid the prevailing minimum wage plus all required benefits (applicable to Summer Student Employment Programs).
