On Thursday, June 9, 2022, Tribal Chief Mark Arcand of the Saskatoon Tribal Council held a press event at the Emergency Wellness Centre where it was announced that the City of Saskatoon’s City Council unanimously voted on extending the lease of the Wellness Centre another year until the end of April 2023

Tribal Chief Arcand said STC is in serious talks with a landowner of a building in regards to a more permanent location for the Wellness Centre.

Since the opening day of the Wellness Centre on 1st ave Saskatoon, the shelter has been constantly full with 75 beds for the homeless.

With a more permanent location Tribal Chief Arcand hopes to bring more services in house at the permanent location so people staying there wouldn’t have to go out and wait for an appointment they might or might not get, rather, having it in house so they could offer to heal more steadily for people.

More permanence would also be able to meet STC’s needs for our people, First Nations and Non-Indigenous alike.

One of our very own Emergency Wellness Centre members said “everything about this place is home, stating that when he leaves this place he will be ahead of the game and it’s because of the staff here and how they affected my life.”

More details about a more permanent location will hopefully be coming soon, so stay tuned for more info.
