School Principal - Mistawasis Nȇhiyawak


The Principal will provide leadership and administration which will motivate instructional and support personnel to strive for superior performance to provide the best possible opportunities for student growth and development, both educationally and personally.

Reports To

Director of Education

Job Duties

  • Supervise both professional and support staff
  • Conduct staff performance evaluations
  • Utilize to the fullest extent possible, all available school facilities, materials, and staff service personnel
  • Maintain an educational philosophy and school climate which encourages a cooperative and participating attitude on the part of all teachers and students
  • Mitigate student behaviour
  • Encourage and initiate continuous improvement in curriculum and teaching methods in cooperation with Administration, subject area specialists, and faculty
  • Maintaining effective communication to keep the staff, students, and parents properly informed
  • Update and maintain school records
  • Make recommendations to Administration on any matter which will improve the excellence of the school
  • Review, authorize or disapprove all professional staff requests for instructional materials and equipment within the approved budget
  • Attend professional conferences, seminars, and workshops in education and/or educational administration as per required
  • Perform all other acts reasonable and necessary to accomplish their primary function as requested by the Director of Education

Qualifications & Skill

  • Minimum education degree (B.Ed.)
  • Saskatchewan Teacher’s Professional A certificate
  • Master’s degree in education preferred
  • Minimum 5 years teaching and proven leadership capabilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with  colleagues, and with other agencies
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle
  • Valid Standard First Aid/CPR/AED
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Knowledge and understanding of First Nation Communities and culture
  • Able to understand and/or speak Cree is an asset
