Community Health Nurse

The Kinistin Saulteaux Nation (KSN) is seeking a highly motivated individual to fulfil the role of Community Health Nurse.

Under the supervision of the Kinistin Wellness Health Director, the successful applicant’s responsibilities will be to:


The Community Health Nurse will provide community based, culturally relevant programming and services as well as support initiatives and strategies that aim to improve health outcomes associated with maternal, infant, child, and family health.

The focus of care is on health promotion, disease and injury prevention, health protection, health surveillance, population health assessment, and emergency preparedness and response.

The nurse will provide optimal client services by working with team members in the planning, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of services.

As a member of the Health and Wellness Team, the successful candidate will provide comprehensive holistic community health nursing and programming.

The Community Health Nurse will report directly to the Director of Health & Wellness and will receive clinical supervision and 2nd level support from the Saskatoon Tribal Council.


 Develop and/or maintain professional competencies and professional knowledge required for nursing practices, specific to: immunizations, maternal and infant care, communicable disease, and other health issues for those at risk;
 Offer immunization services on and off site in the community for publicly funded and seasonal vaccines;
 Follow Saskatchewan Immunization and KSN Guidelines for vaccine storage, handling procedures, documentation methods, inventory, and ordering;
 Assist with Tuberculin Program including administering and evaluating tuberculin skin tests and refer clients as needed per TB protocol;
 Manage notification and referral processes related to assigned communicable diseases per best practice and according to the Public Health Act;
 Using best practice provide clinical expertise for prenatal/postnatal and infant care;
 Maintain accurate client file and client database records, ensuring client records are kept secure and are maintained in accordance with KSN policies and procedures and HIPA standards;
 Provide community education by facilitating workshops and participating in community events to promote overall good health;
 Acts as an advocate on behalf of clients, families and vulnerable populations;
 Participate in the development and maintenance of the community Pandemic Plan;
 Prepare and respond to emergencies such as a pandemic or communicable disease outbreak;
 Work collaboratively with team members to support relationships with internal and external programs and agencies;
 Assist with the development and maintenance of program policy, procedure, guidelines and forms;
 Participate in accreditation program, maintaining and achieving best practices and quality improvement;
 Provide accurate monthly records relating to program delivery;
 Adhere to the Kinistin Saulteaux Nation Personnel policy; and
 Assist and carry out all relief duties and tasks as assigned.
 Baccalaureate in Nursing, eligible for registration in Saskatchewan or RN with Community Health Nursing experience and/or certification in community health nursing will be considered
 A valid driver’s license and dependable transportation are required;
 CPR & First Aid certification required; AED training an asset;
 Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)
 Ability to work effectively within holistic team approach; and
 Strong commitment to health prevention, health promotion and community development;
 Ability to speak Saulteaux and previous experience with a First Nation Community an asset.
