STC employee achieves certification in Aboriginal Financial Management

STC's own Catherine Laliberte, a Financial Services Consultant, received her Certified Aboriginal Financial Management (CAFM) designation in October 2013 and attended the convocation ceremony in Halifax, NS.

Catherine has chosen the CAFM designation to further her career in assisting First Nations in effective financial management and believes in First Nations self-sufficiency. The CAFM designation ensures cultural values, protocols and ways of business are the foundation of learning.

Her interest in finance began while working part-time as an accounting clerk. She advises those looking to enter the program, "To future CAFMs, don't get discouraged, it's a time consuming process but it takes commitment, it will be worth it in the long run."

Originally from Meadow Lake, she currently lives in Saskatoon and is a member of the Poundmaker Cree Nation. She is a proud mother of 3 children, has 11 siblings and is the first of her family to earn a college degree. Catherine credits her deceased father for his strength, wisdom and encouragement when striving to reach her goals and continues to be a role model to her children and family.

Way to go Catherine on making contributing to the enhancement of Aboriginal management and governance!
