New Paths for Education

Description of Program

The New Paths for Education is a proposal driven funded program.  The four key program components are:

  • Teacher Recruitment and Retention
Funding is used to support school staffs in areas of professional development; workshops; in-services; resources; and consultant services that enhance promising practices and instructional strategies to support learning, achievement and graduation of member First Nation students.
  • First Nation Language and Culture Program
Language and culture programs are a priority and foundational in the planning and delivering of education programs.  New Paths provided funding for a coordinator to collaborate and support Language & Culture programs in schools.  This program is tasked to ensure curriculum is available in Saulteaux and Dakota languages.
  • Professional Learning Community (PLC)
PLC funding is used for aggregate activities that involve all seven member First Nation schools.  They include the Annual Opening Institute; two common professional development/planning days; professional resources; and consultant services.
  • Parental & Community Engagement
Research has shown with the engagement of parents and community there is increased student success.  This funding is used to support parents and community to participate in community-based education opportunities and workshops that strengthen parental and community capacity, which subsequently, enhance student engagement and academic outcomes.
