Community Nutrition Program

Mandate and Description of Program

The mandate of the nutrition services program is to provide nutrition services to individuals, groups, daycares (Headstart), schools and community health staff in order to improve the nutritional status of the community members of the Saskatoon Tribal Council’s seven First Nation Communities.  STC has two registered dietitians who oversee the Nutrition Services program. The program utilizes traditional and western health beliefs, values and practices to promote health for community members.

Specific Services Available

Health Education

  • Individual counseling and support for prevention and management of chronic illness
  • Group education workshops
  • Health risk assessment screening clinics

Community Kitchens

  • Menu support and education

Food Security

  • Support for food security initiatives such as the Good Food Box, gardening, meals on wheels and CPNP coupons

Community Health Promotion

  • Health fairs and treaty days
  • Distribute current health information
  • Nutrition policy development and implementation
  • Nutrition month – March

School and Daycare Nutrition

  • Support healthy school environment through healthy meal and snack programs and school nutrition policy
  • Resource development
  • Training for teachers
  • Nutrition education

Program criteria including age group served

  • Nutrition counseling and education to community members of all ages and medical needs
