Our Corporation is dedicated to providing affordable and adequate housing for First Nations persons living in the City of Saskatoon. We nurture and support any and all other potential housing solutions geared towards addressing the critical housing shortage facing the urban First Nations community.


  • Subsidized housing intended to serve households with low income.
  • Affordable housing for people who have low-moderate income who may not be eligible for subsidized housing.
  • Individual home owner mentorship and support.

Am I Eligible?

To qualify for subsidized housing with Cress Housing you must:

  • Provide proof of indigenous status (Human Rights Exemption Number: E92-06)
  • Fall into one of the eligible groups
    • Family – defined as a minimum of two people with at least one dependent child
    • Senior – defined as an individual or couple aged 55 and older
    • Person with a disability – identified as a person who can live independently
  • be below certain income limits, as established by CMHC & SHC

Individuals, seniors, and families who do not meet the eligibility criteria for subsidized housing may qualify for affordable market housing.

How to Apply?

1. Fill out the application

2. Submit required documentation

Once you have filled out the application form, we require you to provide:

  • Two written landlord references. One from both your current and previous landlords. If you cannot provide two landlord references, we will accept character references
  • Income verification. (e.g. pay stub, cheque stub, student allowance letter, EI statements, OAS/CPP, Bank Statement)

If you have not submitted the required documents, your application will be incomplete and you will not be put on the waiting list.

3. Update your application on a regular basis

After you have successfully completed the application process, you must keep your application up to date. To make sure your application is active, update your application:

  • At least once every six months
  • Whenever you change your phone number, address, and e-mail address
  • If your marital and/or health status change
  • If your income changes
  • And, if your household size changes

If we do not receive contact within a six-month period, your application will become inactive and you will be required to re-submit your application. Communication is very important.

Applicants in special circumstances

Cress Housing may prioritize housing applicants that are at risk of homelessness, risk of violence and/or have a serious health condition that is affected by their current housing accommodations.

NOTE: Special circumstances will only be given additional consideration if and when a unit becomes vacant.

After you apply?

When will I receive an offer for a unit?

  • The need for affordable housing is far greater than the number of units available.  As a result, wait times can vary as it is difficult to predict when a suitable unit will become available. It can depend on the needs of the applicant, when a unit becomes vacant and other factors.  
  • When you are approved for an available unit, a tenant counsellor will contact you directly.

How to update your application

Projects in progress

  • Recently purchased three du-plexes for Housing First Programs for homeless families in Saskatoon. Housing First applicants are referred to the White Buffalo Youth Lodge. Call (306)653-7676 for more information.

Things to know

  • Cress Housing has a strict no pet policy
  • We are also a part of the Saskatoon Police Service’s Crime Free Multi-Housing Program. All tenants 18 years old and over are required to sign a document agreeing that tenants will not engage in any criminal activity on our certified properties.
  • We do not provide Emergency Housing.
